We love our Volunteers!

MLA relies on our volunteer base for many things. Being a volunteer shows our kids that their educational experience is important, and teaches them about investing in our community.

The safety of our Meerkats has always been a top priority here at MLA, and that is why we ask you to keep up on your background check and training. Be prepared for the Volunteer Approval process to take at least 2 weeks.

Pick up an application in the office or request an electronic version from our website (Step 1 below). For applications to be prepared for national database submission, your application must be complete, show valid state identification, and $8 payment received. You will be sent additional information for Step 3 via email once background processing is complete.
Step 1: Background Check Application
The Volunteer Background Application may take 7-10 business days to process. The screening includes a national criminal history background check and, per Senate Bill 155 (SB155), a clearance verification for any reports of sexual misconduct and harassment. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify you as a volunteer; cases will be assessed individually.

Applications will begin being processed after receiving completed application, payment, and state identification/license (see below).

Upon receipt of application online, an email verifying receipt will be sent within 1-3 business day with additional information and request for a photo image of your state identification/license; be ready to reply with a photo image of your license to complete the application for submission.

Upon receipt of application via mail, an email verifying receipt will be sent. If you have the ability, provide a photocopy of your state identification/license in your mail submission, along with check payment or note of online payment; if not, you will be asked to reply to the confirmation email with a photo image.

Upon receipt of application in-person, you will be asked to show state identification/license and provide payment to complete your submission. *Due to COVID-19 guidance, in-person applications are not currently being accepted.*

Step 2: Background Check Payment $8
There are 2 options for payment during Distance Learning:
  • Make your payment online by visiting our online store: https://osp.osmsinc.com/MLA/  (please be patient - we are aware this site may take a few extra seconds to load)
  • Send check for $8 to MLA Elementary with memo note "Background Check" to:
MLA Elementary
22565 NE Halsey St.
Fairview, OR 97024
Step 3: Required SafeSchools Training
After the approval of your background and SB155 checks, you will receive an email with information on how to access our SafeSchools Training. The online training is approximately 30minutes and broken into manageable segments with progress tracked if you are unable to complete the videos in one set.

At the end of your training you will receive a certificate of completion for you to download and submit.
Step 4: Clearance Notification
You will be emailed a notification once your application is complete.
