welcome to MLS first person of color positive impact celebration a collection of words expressions in art from students and MLA elements about people who made a positive our first mission comes from Jacqueline Beacon a 6th grader writing about a former teacher at Reynolds Arthur Academy hello miss you coochie it's Jacqueline Buchanan I hope you're doing well we're doing a project at my new school about people who have made an impact in our lives and I want to let you know that you are a great teacher and that you made a big difference in my life that are a third grade through for me and my classmates what time because we can get a new teacher at least twice a year you stuck with us when you came you are one of my favorite teachers I would honestly repeat third grade if you were the teacher as I keep going on through middle school I will still always remember you thanks for everything Jaclyn next with a beautiful Slide by 4th grader no Sherman about her sister titled my sister that does not look like me Tiff is my Vietnamese sister and I love and respect came to us to stay her home is far away she is here to study and learn we hope she gets a turn to shine like a star even though she came so far it's different than me but we both love tea deep down we both have the same big heart and one day we will both part we want to make this world a better place even though we have a different face and now we will hear from 7th grader Daisy Jimenez about Earth MLA Middle School teacher Miss Johnson let's take a listen BMX Johnson because Raymond Elementary School there is no like teachers who were people of color and there's no like when you can kind of relate to like in that way was very pretty like white DJ kind of there was Michael actually very mixed for elementary school there was the weather was prominent in the community and a lot of them black and mix there's like we're kids married but they could connect to the teachers more than any of the other kids could and I think that's just because there is no, you need to like playing on Friday putting what Miss Johnson is doing just helped professional athlete and personal friend Ruthy hebard Ruthy hebard is my friend and Mentor I do know her personally she plays basketball on the Oregon Duck team but not anymore I think it was 2018 when I was seven or eight when I met her it was an Oregon Duck basketball camp when she was still a duck is in the Chicago Sky WNBA now can we watch her play all the time every game but it's off season right now me and Ruthie bonded partly because I went to the Oregon Duck camp and because we have similar blackpuss we were both it was fun meeting her in front of hearing about her life we even went to lunch with her before it was before code to before all that I was small and broody was Tom six I remember but I'm basically and I'm not even an inch and a half away then I was not really to her shoulder questions that I have the first how do you like playing in Turkey do you miss the Oregon Duck team along with the rest of the team who transferred her stayed third did you wish Brina Locust who was on your team the Chicago Sky do you like your team and what's that too including turkey did you play any other sports growing up Rubino plays in Turkey a country in the Middle East I know turkey sounds like actual turkey and don't you think their flag should be a turkey but no roof born in Fairbanks Alaska her full name is Ruthie chili Herbert she was born on April 28th 1998 and she is now 22 I believe next we have a submission from 7th grader Amber safe man who has written this story about her mother titled all about my mom happy birthday Mom my mom is the best mom ever because she gave birth to me said me and all the other things a mother does help her child without her I wouldn't be here might not be the perfect mom but I still love her here's a life story and why I think she is the best mom in the world first lie my mom grew up in Thailand with her 12 other siblings it would not be an easy life if you were born and raised in how many jobs over there make you work so hard you get paid so little because the economy is not the best over there she had to work because our parents died when she was so young for such I had to take care of her in return she would take care of her sisters secondly my mom went to the US have a better life there that's where she met my dad my dad helped her get US citizenship and the other things to help her stay here permanently my brother couldn't come because he was too young so his aunt take care of him Newsround 12 years old he was able to do here lastly my mom thought of the idea of having a Chili restaurant however it was not an easy thing to do we believe that when we ever came up with the name of the restaurant had to be nice characters because the number 9 with a lucky number it is true because of business is doing very well right now my mom is still working hard at the restaurant one day I'll take care of my parents because tide people believe their parents youngest considerations reasons why my mom is the best mom ever she may not be the perfect mom that you see in the movies and on TV commercials she is a great she took care of me by doing things that mothers do to take care of their kids next we have several submissions that. on a special member of the elementary school mrs. kekona who wrote a wonderful letter entitled and owed miss ghotona you laughing your fun you are a very kind teacher smart you help kids you've been working very hard you're happy with your job and you care for all the kids and now Abigail Thornton would like to share some thoughts about missing to Kona entitled music account mrs. Katona is an amazing teacher she helps out in our class and does an amazing job she teaches us math and makes it fun while we're doing it she also is very funny even though it's hard learning on Virtual she tries her best kids TV taught me how to divide by spouse and she made it seem very simple I love this has become his teaching skills mistika Kona is the best we now have some stuff to hear from clay listen to Kona is a good teacher she hides in the slides and then the jamboard to her dogs are not as wine is now he helps us learn all the way through Mrs cocona you're the best helper teacher Gabe would also like to share some thoughts about mrs. Katona as well and we could coronavirus time love a mom a teacher a wife a friend so balancing all that must be hard so I'm giving credit to her for all the people don't and finally we have a lovely picture of Mrs deconna that is Mumbai student named Addison I know a few positive words about friendship our first comes from Samson about his friend game he was my friend preschool he taught me how to do a backflip we sat together on the bus the next Hailey has some words she would like to share about her friend Cheyenne and my best friend we are friends till the end always it's always there she is my best friend was born in Oregon favorite food is pizza she is 10 years old why I chose her I chose her because she has been my friend has changed my life because she is someone I trust. and I feel I can tell her my feelings she is a true friend next we have Harmony who would like to tell us about a special person she knows name Tony know that Tony Csonka was a nurse Tony Sacco's favorite color is red Tony is also 55 years old and her favorite food is Chinese and Tony Sonia she enjoys watching movies or reading books he helps people by saying prayers donating money and giving her time as a nurse Tony Sonia help sick people by taking their Vital Signs and finally we have some wonderful drawings to share from Daisy and Ainsley this has been mla's person of color positive impact celebration hope you enjoyed it will see you again next
